A Dog-Friendly Stay at Bainland Lodge Retreats, Lincolnshire

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt from travelling with Alfie and Dougie, it’s that finding a genuinely good dog-friendly stay can be a bit of a minefield.
Because yes, somewhere can say it’s dog-friendly, but what we really want is somewhere that feels like a proper holiday for all of us. Somewhere beautiful, somewhere we can relax, somewhere the dogs have space to explore and, ideally, somewhere we don’t have to compromise on the things we enjoy either.
So when we were invited to spend three nights at Bainland Lodge Retreats in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, we were very excited to see if it lived up to the promise. And tbh, it 100% did.
Our stay at Bainland Lodge Retreats
Bainland Lodge Retreats is set within 45 acres of countryside in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, with a collection of luxury lodges designed around relaxed countryside living.
We stayed in Otter - The Ponds, a beautiful lakeside lodge that immediately gave us that feeling of being somewhere completely removed from everyday life.
The setting was probably the first thing that struck us. Being right by the water meant we could sit outside with a coffee in the morning, watch the dogs explore and simply enjoy having nowhere we needed to be.
And after the amount of time we spend rushing around normally, that was exactly what we needed.
A genuinely dog-friendly stay
Of course, the biggest question for us was always going to be: how dog-friendly is it actually? And this is where Bainland really impressed us.
Alfie and Dougie weren’t just allowed to stay with us - there were facilities specifically designed to make having dogs on holiday easier.
One of our favourite things was the secure dog exercise area and agility course, which gave them somewhere safe to have a proper run around and burn off some energy.
There are also plenty of walking routes around the estate, so you don’t have to get in the car every time you want to take the dogs out.
For us, those little details make such a difference. Travelling with dogs is so much easier when you know they have somewhere safe to exercise and that you don’t have to spend the whole stay worrying about where they can and can’t go.
The lodge
Our lodge was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing few days away.
But one of the biggest selling points was undoubtedly the private hot tub.
There’s something about sitting in a hot tub overlooking the water after a day outside that makes it very easy to forget about real life for a while.
The outdoor space also meant we could enjoy the views while the dogs pottered around nearby, which is pretty much our ideal kind of evening.
Inside, the lodge had that cosy-but-luxurious feel that works so well for a countryside escape. It felt like somewhere you could happily spend a rainy afternoon too, rather than somewhere you only use as a base for exploring.
Dinner and cocktails at The Nest
We also made time to visit The Nest Restaurant & Bar, which is located on site.
And I have to say, we were genuinely impressed.
We had the most amazing meal and cocktails there, and it was such a lovely addition to the stay. There’s something particularly nice about being able to have a proper meal and drinks without having to get back in the car afterwards.
The all-weather terrace is another lovely spot to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
It’s the sort of place that means you can have a completely lazy day at the lodge without feeling like you’ve missed out on anything.
