A Dog-Friendly Escape to Snowdonia Hideaway
There’s something about getting away to Wales with the dogs that just feels like a proper reset. Give us a cosy place to stay, some beautiful countryside to explore and nowhere we particularly need to be, and we’re happy.
So when we had the chance to stay at Snowdonia Hideaway in North Wales, it felt like exactly the kind of little escape we love.
Tucked away near Tywyn, Snowdonia Hideaway is surrounded by the rolling countryside of Eryri (Snowdonia), with views stretching across the mountains and towards the sea. It’s the sort of place where you can arrive, switch off and immediately feel a million miles away from everyday life.
And, importantly for us, it’s very dog friendly too.
Staying at Snowdonia Hideaway
Snowdonia Hideaway is a beautifully converted barn with lots of character, combining the original features of the building with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
There are exposed beams, wooden furniture, cosy Welsh touches and a really homely feel rather than it feeling like a generic holiday cottage.
The Lodge sleeps two guests and has its own enclosed garden, which was a big plus for us with Alfie and Dougie. There’s also a wood-fired hot tub outside, a BBQ and plenty of space to sit and enjoy the views.
Inside, there’s a super king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen, lounge area and log burner - basically everything you need for those evenings when you’ve spent the day outside and just want to get cosy.
But I think the setting is what really makes this place.
The views are gorgeous.
You’re surrounded by open countryside, with the mountains and sea in the distance, and because Snowdonia Hideaway is tucked away from the main roads, it feels wonderfully peaceful.
And the dogs loved it too
One of my favourite things about staying somewhere dog friendly is when it actually feels like the dogs have been thought about rather than simply being allowed to come along.
Snowdonia Hideaway has an enclosed garden, which meant the boys could potter around outside without us having to worry about them wandering off into the surrounding countryside.
There’s also a two-acre dog walking field on site, so there was plenty of space for them to have a proper sniff and explore.
And then, of course, there’s all that countryside right on the doorstep.
This is definitely somewhere I’d recommend if your ideal break involves getting outside with your dog rather than spending the whole weekend in the car travelling from one place to another
Exploring the area
Snowdonia Hideaway is in a brilliant location for exploring this part of Wales.There are walks starting from the property itself, as well as plenty of places to visit within a short drive.
The area around Tal-y-Llyn is particularly beautiful, with mountains, lakes and plenty of opportunities for walking. You’re also within reach of places like Dolgoch Falls, the Mawddach Trail and Cregennen Lakes.
If you fancy heading into a town, Tywyn is nearby, while Dolgellau and Barmouth are also within easy reach.
And if you’re a proper walking enthusiast, there are plenty of bigger adventures to be had in the surrounding Eryri National Park too.
We loved having the option of doing as much or as little as we fancied. Some days you want a big walk and somewhere new to explore, and other days the best plan is quite literally sitting outside with a drink while the dogs mooch around.
The perfect place to slow down
I think that was probably my favourite thing about our stay.
There wasn’t any pressure to do anything.
We could spend the day exploring, come back to the Hideaway, get the fire going and relax. Or we could have a slower morning, enjoy the views and let the dogs potter around.
And because the area is so peaceful, it really does feel like a proper escape from normal life.
There’s also the bonus of being in a Dark Skies Protected Zone, so once night falls, the lack of light pollution makes it a lovely place to sit outside and look up at the stars.
It’s those little things that make a stay memorable for me.
Would we go back?
Absolutely.
Snowdonia Hideaway is the kind of place I’d recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, dog-friendly escape in North Wales - particularly if you love walking, beautiful scenery and cosy accommodation rather than somewhere that’s packed with things to do on site.
