Snowdonia
Tucked away in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, Cabin Under the Stars is exactly what its name promises - a peaceful hideaway where the sky feels closer, the air is fresher, and the daily hustle feels a million miles away.
This charming Scandinavian-style pine log cabin is a cosy retreat that’s perfect for couples, families, and - importantly for us - our spaniels, Alfie and Dougie.
Dog-Friendly Bliss
We were so pleased to find that the cabin welcomes up to two well-behaved dogs at no extra cost. It made the trip feel all the more special knowing the boys were as welcome as we were. Dogs are welcome to curl up on the sofa (on the doggy fleeces provided) but it’s no dogs on the beds, so make sure you bring your own! Oh, and not to mention the epic offlead facility located on site!
It’s also family friendly, with kids of 5+ welcome to come and enjoy the adventure, though we definitely prefer dogs 🤭
The local area is packed with dog-friendly adventures, and we made the most of it!
A Day at Harlech Beach
Just a short drive away, Harlech Beach was one of the highlights of our stay. With soft golden sand stretching for miles, backed by rolling dunes and dramatic mountain views, it was heaven for both humans and hounds. Alfie and Dougie had the best time running wild, chasing each other along the shoreline while we soaked up the views of Snowdonia meeting the sea. It’s one of those places that feels wild and unspoiled perfect for a morning walk or a windswept sunset.
Hiking to Stwlan Dam
For a more rugged adventure, we tackled the walk up to Stwlan Dam - and wow, what a hike. The route winds steeply up through the hills above Tanygrisiau, eventually revealing the dam itself nestled among the peaks of the Moelwyn mountains. At 1,600 feet above sea level, it’s one of the highest dams in the UK and part of the Ffestiniog pumped storage hydroelectric system. The scale and setting are seriously impressive, and the views from the top are worth every step.
Starry Skies & Cosy Evenings
Back at the cabin, the magic didn’t stop. Being in a designated dark sky area meant we were treated to incredible stargazing each night. With no streetlights to interfere, we wrapped ourselves in blankets on the terrace, used the telescope provided, and watched the Milky Way drift overhead. Total peace.
All the Comforts of Home
The cabin itself is so well-equipped - it has a full kitchen (complete with oven and dishwasher), a comfy living area with satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and a private terrace with mountain views. We loved starting our mornings with tea outside and winding down in the evening with the dogs snoozing at our feet.
Perfectly Located for Exploring
Situated in Trawsfynydd Holiday Village, the cabin is ideally placed for exploring Snowdonia’s coast, mountains, and charming towns. From Porthmadog and Dolgellau to the unique, Italian-style village of Portmeirion, there’s no shortage of things to see and do nearby.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re after adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both - with your pups in tow - Cabin Under the Stars offers a truly unforgettable stay. We left feeling recharged, windswept, and already dreaming about coming back.
